Job Title: Lead Diesel Mechanic (Shop Lead)

Location: On-Site (Local Fleet Operations)

Overview

A well-established transportation and fleet services operation is seeking a Lead Diesel Mechanic to oversee shop operations while performing advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on tractor and trailer equipment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are consistently met.


Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel tractors and trailers
  • Perform preventative maintenance and major component rebuilds
  • Lead and assign daily workload to shop mechanics
  • Review and complete detailed work orders (condition, cause, correction)
  • Manage parts ordering and ensure availability for scheduled repairs
  • Oversee warranty processes and documentation accuracy
  • Conduct failure analysis to prevent recurring issues
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant shop environment
  • Identify safety concerns, equipment issues, and process improvements
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and ethical standards


Qualifications
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) required
  • Experience in diesel truck and trailer maintenance OR technical certification in heavy-duty diesel repair
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting experience
  • Prior leadership or lead mechanic experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and repair procedures
