Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician
Help create customized medications that make a difference. We are seeking a detail-oriented Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. Position Summary
As a Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician, you will prepare customized medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist while following established quality standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. Your work will directly support the delivery of safe, accurate medications for patients and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Compound non-sterile medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist
- Accurately weigh, measure, and blend pharmaceutical ingredients according to batch records and formulation instructions
- Prepare a variety of dosage forms, including solutions, capsules, powders, gels, chew treats, and made-to-stock preparations
- Ensure each preparation is properly labeled and documented with complete batch records
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and pharmacy regulations
- Meet daily production and quality goals while maintaining exceptional accuracy
- Maintain organized work areas and adhere to all safety and contamination control procedures
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including lab coats, gloves, eye protection, and respirators as required
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and communicate recommendations to supervisors
- Cross-train in multiple compounding areas to support operational needs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education in science or healthcare is a plus
- Previous pharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratory, or compounding experience preferred
- Pharmacy Technician certification is highly desirable
- Must obtain New Jersey Pharmacy Technician registration if not already registered
- Strong math, reading, and spelling skills
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work procedures
- Dependable, accountable, and team-oriented
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday
- Ability to lift 20–50 pounds
- Comfortable working around pharmaceutical ingredients while following established safety protocols
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators when necessary
