CDL School Instructor
Train the Next Generation of Professional Truck Drivers
Are you an experienced Class A CDL driver who enjoys mentoring others? We are seeking a CDL School Instructor to provide classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel instruction for students pursuing their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced over-the-road drivers who want to share their knowledge while enjoying a stable schedule. This is not an OTR position—you’ll be home every day.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction to students preparing to earn their CDL.
- Teach proper pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Instruct students on vehicle operation, including backing, lane control, braking, turning, and defensive driving techniques.
- Demonstrate safe operation of automatic transmission tractor-trailers in various driving environments, including highways, city streets, daytime, nighttime, and adverse weather conditions.
- Train students on the use of onboard communication and routing systems.
- Reinforce safe driving practices and regulatory compliance throughout the training program.
- Evaluate student progress, provide coaching, and complete performance assessments.
- Maintain accurate student records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Deliver outstanding customer service while creating a positive learning environment.
Qualifications
Required
- Active Class A CDL.
- Minimum 3 years of recent, verifiable over-the-road (OTR) driving experience within the last 10 years.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Clean background, drug screen, and motor vehicle record.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Patient, professional, and passionate about helping others learn.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
Preferred
- Previous classroom instruction or driver training experience.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Experience conducting classroom and range demonstrations.
