Electrical & Software Engineer – Ground Support Equipment

Role Summary
The Electrical & Software Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of control systems and software solutions supporting aviation ground support equipment. This role serves as a key technical owner for automation and controls, translating customer requirements into reliable, manufacturable electronic and software systems from concept through deployment and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of electronic, control, and software systems for ground support equipment through full lifecycle (concept → implementation → support) in alignment with ISO 9001 processes
- Develop PLC and HMI-based control systems for automated equipment functionality
- Translate customer requirements into technical specifications, system architecture, and executable designs aligned with project timelines
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, product management, and supply chain teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, control, and software issues; perform root cause analysis and document corrective actions
- Support new product development and product enhancements, including automation improvements
- Participate in technical design reviews to ensure safety, compliance, performance, and quality standards
- Provide technical guidance to internal teams, suppliers, and customers
- Drive continuous improvement in controls/software design processes and configuration management practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Software Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, controls, or industrial automation
- Experience designing PLC and HMI-based control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
- Proficiency in Ladder Logic and/or C, C++, or similar programming languages
- Experience with electrical design tools (e.g., SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent)
- Strong ability to troubleshoot integrated electronic and software systems
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments
- Strong communication skills, including customer-facing interaction
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to work on-site in Mason, Ohio
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace, aviation, or ground support equipment experience
- Familiarity with SQL or data-driven applications
- Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., PDM systems)
- Prior customer-facing engineering experience
- German language skills a plus
