A well-established national transportation and logistics organization is seeking a highly organized and analytical Dispatch Planner / Logistics Capacity Planner to join its operations team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring freight moves safely, efficiently, and on schedule by optimizing equipment utilization, coordinating driver assignments, monitoring shipments, and proactively resolving service disruptions.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate freight movement using company assets and third-party transportation resources.
- Match available trucks with customer freight while maximizing equipment utilization.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through final delivery, ensuring on-time performance.
- Identify service risks and develop proactive solutions to prevent delivery delays.
- Coordinate driver assignments, trailer swaps, relays, and route adjustments as operational needs change.
- Communicate load changes and shipment status with drivers, internal operations teams, and customers.
- Monitor service exception reports and resolve transportation issues related to weather, traffic, mechanical breakdowns, or customer requests.
- Maintain appropriate trailer inventory and balance equipment across service regions.
- Ensure shipping documentation, transfer records, and load information remain accurate and up to date.
- Generate operational reports and provide shipment visibility to internal stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and recommending process enhancements.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in transportation, logistics, dispatch, supply chain, or operations planning.
- Understanding of DOT regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
- Experience with shipment tracking, routing, dispatching, or transportation coordination.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
- Knowledge of transportation routing and time/distance geography.
- Experience with transportation management systems or enterprise logistics software.
- Familiarity with AS/400 or similar transportation operating systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
