Position Overview

Detention Deputies are responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of the detention facility. Deputies supervise inmate movement and activities, respond to emergencies, enforce facility policies, and ensure the safety of staff, inmates, and visitors.


Key Responsibilities
  • Process inmates during intake and release procedures, including searches, fingerprinting, photographs, and property inventory
  • Monitor inmate behavior and enforce facility rules and regulations
  • Respond to incidents including medical emergencies, disturbances, and fights
  • Operate security systems including cameras, doors, alarms, elevators, and monitoring equipment
  • Conduct inmate counts, supervise visitation, and monitor recreation activities
  • Escort inmates, medical staff, visitors, and contractors throughout the facility
  • Prepare detailed incident and operational reports
  • Maintain security and prevent contraband, escapes, and safety violations
  • Assist with meal distribution, housing unit operations, and inmate supervision
  • Utilize defensive tactics and restraint techniques when necessary


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Strong communication, observation, and decision-making skills
  • No felony convictions or crimes involving dishonesty, including diversions or expungements
