Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting Correctional Officers to join the team, and Recourse Communications Inc. What You’ll Do

As a Correctional Officer, you’ll work 12.25-hour shifts (Days 6:45 AM–7:00 PM; Evenings 6:45 PM–7:00 AM) You’ll be assigned one or the other depending on the needs of the facility. You’ll help maintain safety, security, and order within the facility by:

  • Monitoring inmate activity to prevent disturbances or escapes
  • Conducting headcounts, security checks, and searches for contraband
  • Escorting inmates to recreation, medical, and court appointments
  • Responding to emergencies and maintaining facility control
  • Completing logs, reports, and daily documentation
  • Supporting a positive, secure environment for inmates and staff


The Perks

  • Starting pay: $24.25/hour
  • Generous paid holidays, PTO, and benefits
  • Retirement: NDPERS Pension: County contributes 16.26%, employee contributes 2%. For employees hired after Jan. 1, 2025: enrollment in the DC25 plan, County contributes 9.26%, with an optional 3% match


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (no experience required)
  • At least 18 years old
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background, medical, and drug/alcohol screening
  • Must be able to work 12 hour shifts including weekends and holidays.


Career Progression

  • Correctional Officer I: Entry-level role with paid training and certification
  • Correctional Officer II: Promotion after one year and completion of training. Advanced responsibilities, leadership opportunities, and eligibility for specialized team assignments
